Sam Reinhart was drafted second overall in the 2014 NHL draft right behind Aaron Ekblad. People have been saying Reinhart has been a bust because he hasn’t quite lived up to the hype of being picked second overall, and the fact that Draisaitl who was picked right after him has put up multiple 70+ point seasons. But the fact is for the 22 year old is, he has put up 3 straight 40+ point seasons, and last season setting career highs in goals with 25 and points with 50. I think those are some pretty decent numbers for a 22 year old, and if you look, his point totals have been increasing every season; 42, 47, 50. And its not a risk to say that he will even beat 50 points this season!
Now as per his recent extension, that is a great price to sign him to for a bridge deal. If you look at another person in his draft year, William Nylander, who’s season totals have been 13, 61, 61 and is reportedly looking for 7+ million per year, which contract do you think looks better? Personally I would prefer Reinhart at 3.65.
This is a great signing for the Sabres and I look forward to seeing him light the lamp this season!
