HOCKEY GM ADVICE

We have all heard that Artemi Panarin has refused to sign a contract extension during the season, so if we learned anything from the Tavares situation, its better to trade early and get whatever you can, than keep your hopes high and have your heart broken when they leave for nothing.

If the Blue Jackets were smart they would be looking for a trade immediately. A team will receive more value for a player at the beginning of the season than they would at the trade deadline.

Where do I think would be a good fit and receive fair value with a great return both ways? The Columbus Blue Jackets are making a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Who would be going both ways? Well lets see the details. First the Lightning are in a win now mode, their players are young, they are at their best and the time is now. Adding Panarin will only boost their elite talent and would provide an amazing second line scorer. But what would be going back to Columbus? Well, Tampa is close to having cap issues, but they have two contracts they would like to get rid of, Callahan and Killorn. Callahan is only signed for 2 more seasons, so what I would recommend sending back the Jackets way is Killorn. Killorn is the type of player that Tortorella loves, he is big, he is scrappy, and bangs in those ugly goals. But that will not be enough, we already know that Columbus has a young defence core, and its about to get younger and more skilled. Adding into the trade is Mikail Sergachev. Many people will question this, but looking at Tampa’s defence core, and the fact that Sergachev is a lefty, he is already playing behind Hedman and Mcdonagh. But receiving Panarin in return would be 100% worth trading Sergachev. What would these line-ups look like after the trade?

Tampa Bay

Miller - Stamkos - Kucherov

Panarin - Point - Gourde

Palat - Cirelli - Johnson

Joseph - Paquette - Callahan

Hedman - Girardi

McDonagh - Stralman

Coburn - Koekkoek

Columbus:

Killorn - Dubois - Atkinson

Foligno - Wenneberg - Bjorkstrand

Jenner - Dubinsky - Anderson

Milano - Nash - Duclair

Werenski - Jones

Sergachev - Savard

Harington - Nutivaara

Both of these rosters in my opinion majorly benefit from this move. Tampa boosts their offensive core with another star who can be a difference maker when they need it in the playoffs, for a player who is not going to get much ice time, and Columbus receives a piece for their future and a solid 2nd or 3rd line left winger.

What do you think?
