Team Power Rankings: Columbus Blue Jackets #10
We have finally made it into the top 10 of our Power Rankings. The Columbus Blue Jackets are young, their skilled, and they are hungry for their first ever playoff round victory in franchise history. This team is led by Russian star Artemi Panarin, who is coming off a career high season with 82 points. They have depth down the middle with Pierre-Luc Dubois who is coming off a nice rookie season with 20 goals and 48 points, which will only improve this season, and Alexander Wenneberg filling in the second line center spot who is an assist creating machine! Finishing up the center depth with veterans Brandon Dubinsky and Riley Nash, thats a pretty nice 4 lines of centers. This team is so deep upfront they have a former 30 goal scorer (who is only 24 i might add) on the third line! It is safe to say, they have built this team very well for the future and present.
Moving onto their defence, they boast one of the youngest but best defence pair in the National Hockey League with Seth Jones and Zach Werenski. Both are great two way players who are also great at getting their names on the score sheet. I would expect Seth Jones to be in contention for the Norris trophy this upcoming season, after having a career high 57 points last season, and the sky is the limit for this 23 year old. Werenski is still only 20 years old and I expect him to continue to grow and increase his point totals as well. Add David Savard into this mix and its a pretty nice top 3 this team has.
When you look at their goaltending, they have a 2 time vezina winner. What else could you ask for from a netminder? Bobrovsky has stellar regular season numbers having a career save percentage of .920, but cannot seem to keep himself together in the playoffs, boasting one of the worst playoff save percentages in the National Hockey League where he drops to an awful .891.
If the Blue Jackets want to finally win a playoff round and contend for the Stanley Cup, they will need their net minder who should be their best player, get his act together during playoff time.
