HOCKEY GM ADVICE

With Ottawa only signing Mark Stone to a one year contract it means he is a UFA at the end of the season, which means if they cannot come to a multi-year extension he can walk in free agency and the Senators will receive nothing. In my opinion the Senators, while they are doing good these first few games, will not be a good team this season, and again, while Stone publicly stated he likes Ottawa, I believe he will want to go to a team that is a contender now, or will be a contender very shortly. Well, here is where I think would be perfect for Mr. Hands of Stone.

Stone has been a consistent 20 goal scorer, but he provides much more than just goal scoring. He is a proven leader, loves the gritty game, and while his nickname is hands of stone, he has some pretty sweet hands. He is a very reliable player, both offensively and defensively, and I think he would compliment a young team, who is highly skilled and looking for leadership. This team, would be the Arizona Coyotes.

A top line of Keller - Stepan - Stone would look pretty nice dont you think?

But what would need to go back to Ottawa? Well, first off I would say Dylan Strome. People have been calling Strome a bust, but the fact is, he is only 21 years old, he is a point per game player in the American Hockey League, and not all players are superstars right off the bat. If Senators fans remember, Mike Hoffman didn’t people a full time NHL player until he was 25 years old. Strome is still developing and is still considered a grade A prospect. While Ottawa has been recently proven to make undervalued trades, in my opinion Stone is still worth a bit more than Strome, as Stone was a point per game in the NHL last year, still relatively young and at the moment better than Strome. And the fact is, Stone provides a skill set to the Coyotes that they do not currently have. So in addition to Strome, the Coyotes would additionally send a first round pick to the Senators, but the Senators would be sending a third round pick in return.

So in conclusion;

Senators receive: Dylan Strome + 1st round pick (2019)

Coyotes receive: Mark Stone + 3rd round pick ( 2019 Pittsburgh Penguins pick)

The Senators receive a potential top line center for their rebuild to give a possible 1-2 punch of Strome - Brown and the Coyotes receive a proven first line winger who can help the Coyotes reach the playoffs for the first time in years.
