THE BANDWAGON PESPECTIVE
News broke Tuesday morning that the Winnipeg Jets have signed Forward, Blake Wheeler to a five-year, $41.25M contract ($8.25M AAV) for the 2019 season. This contract locks in the 32-year-Jets Captain through the 2024 season.
Wheeler led the Jets with 91 points, including 23 goals, in the 2018 campaign and is set to slot in on the first line along side Mark Scheifele and left-winger, Kyle Connor – although many will argue that Nikolaj Ehlers will make a push for the spot on the top line.
Wheeler helped lead the Jets to their first playoff win in Franchise history this past spring and don’t expect the NHL’s #2 team from last year to slow down this year. The Jets, along with Laine and Ehlers another year older, are definitely a Stanley Cup contender and will continue to be for years to come.
