Today, in a conversation with The Athletic’s Corey Masiak, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly that the hope is to have the next World Cup of Hockey (WCOH) in the Fall of 2020.
Daly went on to say that the WCOH plans are reliant on how the NHL’s current CBA holds up after both the NHL and NHLPA have to option to terminate the current CBA next year. If the CBA is terminated or reevaluated, the WCOH would likely not happen in 2020.
Hockey fans all around will agree that a best-on-best tournament is desired (the last WCOH saw Team Canada hoist the Cup in 2016), especially with NHL players excluded from the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
Let’s hope it is about time to dust off those team North America sweaters in 2020!
